WYCOMBE, Peterborough United and Portsmouth turned up the heat on Wanderers in the play-off chase with midweek victories.

The gap between Ian Evatt’s side and seventh place is now just three points as they go to leaders Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night.

The latest predictions from the supercomputer at football stats website FiveThirtyEight, however, make for interesting reading – and a potentially thrilling finale.

After every game, the data experts at FiveThirtyEight crunch the numbers and use their Soccer Power Index (SPI) ratings to predict each remaining round of matches and how the final standings will present themselves.

Unsurprisingly, Sheffield Wednesday are predicted to win the title, with a whopping 102 points.

And Plymouth Argyle are expected to overcome their recent problems away from home to claim second spot by two points from Ipswich Town.

Barnsley and Derby County have been tipped to finish fourth and fifth, with 89 and 82 points, respectively.

And the supercomputer believes Wanderers will take the final play-off spot with 79 points, pipping Wycombe (78), Peterborough (72) and Pompey (71).

Down at the bottom, MK Dons, Morecambe, Cambridge United and Forest Green have been tipped for the drop.

Blackpool, Wigan and Huddersfield Town are forecast to be relegated from the Championship.

In League Two, Leyton Orient, Stevenage and Carlisle United have been tipped to come up automatically, with Northampton, Bradford, Mansfield and Stockport contesting the play-offs.
