WANDERERS (3-4-1-2).

JAMES TRAFFORD…8.

Looked laser focussed. Distribution was decisive, and he made every save he made look routine. Definitely the James Trafford we have come to like.

GETHIN JONES…7.5.

Back in tandem with Bradley and worked well. Had plenty to deal with early on but once Wanderers got on the front foot, he came into his own, creating the goal.

RICARDO SANTOS…9.

Might just be his best game in a Bolton shirt, and there have been a few outstanding candidates. Had it not been for a scrappy first 10 minutes, might have had half a mark more.

EOIN TOAL…7.5.

Worried for him in the first 20 minutes, then flipped a switch and really imposed himself. Great ball for Charles in the penalty incident. A real step forward.

CONOR BRADLEY…7.

Good to see that partnership with Jones working again, and the right side was definitely the most profitable. Never gives less than 100 per cent.

JOSH SHEEHAN…7.

Struggled early on to get close to Bannan, or get himself on the ball, but then for the last hour he was the one driving things on.

KYLE DEMPSEY…5.5.

Never really got himself into the game. Just one of those occasions where nothing really went right.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5.

Most of Bolton’s traffic was being directed down the right side but John showed some good touches even in the early pressure.

KIERAN LEE…7.

Not quite the dominant performance the script called for but Lee’s consistency in possession helped Wanderers get back into it.

DION CHARLES…7.

Fouled for the penalty, pure and simple. Kept the pressure up throughout and did not allow the Wednesday defence any respite.

VICTOR ADEBOYEJO…6.5.

Buried an important goal – and that’s why he is in the team. Struggled a bit in the first half to link up effectively with the midfield.

Subs: Jerome 6.5, 61 (for Adeboyejo) – Experience and composure were big assets.

Shoretire 72 (for Lee), Morley 72 (for Dempsey), Kachunga 80 (for Charles).

Not used: Nlundulu, R Williams, Mbete.

Sheffield Wednesday (4-2-3-1): Dawson, Hunt, Palmer, Flint, Famewo, James, Dele-Bashiru, Vaulks, Bannan, Windass, Gregory.

Subs: Johnson 46 (for James), Smith 60 (for Windass), Adeniran 78 (for Gregory).

Not used: Stockdale, Alimi-Adetoro, Brown, Bakinson.

Attendance: 29,230.

Referee: Sam Purkiss 5/10 – Having looked back at the 30 seconds before the penalty appeal it was hard to see where he was coming from. Hard to predict all night.
