Daisy Hill manager Leighton Mills is issuing a challenge to his players to match the level of performance they turned in last weekend, when Bacup Borough visit New Sirs in the North West Countries League First Division North today (3pm).

Daisy were unfortunate to lose to a late goal at Ashton Town last Saturday but despite the disappointment, Mills believes a repeat performance will be good enough to pick up points against a Bacup Borough side who they held to a goalless draw in the away fixture earlier in the season.

“At this level of football, if you work hard, then nine times out 10 you will get something out of games, but at Ashton Town last week we didn’t - it just didn’t work out for us,” said Mills.

“It’s important that I kept the lads positive this week because there is nothing worse than working hard in a game and getting nothing out of it.

“Bacup Borough have had a tough schedule recently and the performance we put in at Ashton last Saturday was full of energy, and the players gave everything. So hopefully that will be in our favour.

“We’d not been good enough leading up to last Saturday, but that performance was a massive positive, and we need to use that as a turning point going into the last five games of the season.”
