Wanderers might not be in action this weekend, but there are some big games taking place in the League One promotion race.

The Whites have a free weekend ahead of their upcoming Papa Johns Trophy final against Plymouth at Wembley.

Ian Evatt’s men will benefit from the break, having played the joint-highest number of games in the division at this stage.

But there are still some important fixtures for Wanderers fans to keep an eye on, and perhaps the biggest sees fifth-place Derby make the trip to seventh-place Peterborough.

The Rams are only above Wanderers on goal difference heading into the business end of the campaign, having suffered a 2-0 defeat against Fleetwood last time out.

Meanwhile, Peterborough are four points behind the Whites and will be aiming to keep the pressure on the current top six.

Wycombe are also four points outside the play-off places and the Chairboys face what could be a tough trip to Charlton this weekend.

The Addicks are managed by former Bolton defender Dean Holden, who recently signed a new long-term contract.

Ninth-place Portsmouth will also be looking to gain ground on Evatt’s men when they welcome Port Vale to Fratton Park.

John Mousinho’s side enter the game in high spirits following back-to-back victories against Accrington and Bristol Rovers.

There are also a couple of fixtures that could have big implications at the other end of the League One table.

Accrington will be hoping to climb out of the relegation zone when they make the long journey to Exeter. Meanwhile, Morecambe could leapfrog MK Dons when they head to Stadium MK.

Speaking earlier this month, Evatt told The Bolton News: "The league table might look different by the time we get back.

"You’d send yourself daft worrying about it, and I won’t do it because there is nothing we can affect there. By that stage we will have games in hand, and the focus will be on us getting points.

"But I think we have a pretty good run-in and they are games that I am really looking forward to, and that provided we can stay at our best level, they are games I think we can get points from. I genuinely think we are in a strong position.”
