The full 2023/24 League One line-up has been confirmed after Sheffield Wednesday overcame Barnsley in the play-off final at Wembley.

There was nothing to separate the sides after 90 minutes, with both sides having good chances in the second half.

Barnsley were reduced to 10 men after the break when Adam Phillips was given his marching orders for a reckless challenge on Lee Gregory.

The game seemed to be heading towards a penalty shoot-out but Josh Windass found a way past Harry Isted with a clinical header in the 123rd minute, sending the Wednesday fans into raptures.

The Owls will be playing in the Championship next season along with Plymouth and Ipswich, who both secured automatic promotion.

Darren Moore's side overcame Peterborough in the semi-final following a remarkable comeback at Hillsborough despite trailing 4-0 at the halfway stage.

Meanwhile, Carlisle secured their place in League One next season after beating Stockport on penalties at the weekend.

Paul Simpson’s side will join Leyton Orient, Stevenage and Northampton in the third tier, with Forest Green, Accrington, MK Dons and Morecambe heading in the other direction.

Reading, Wigan and Blackpool will also be playing in League One next season following their relegation from the Championship. Wigan will start on minus eight points after their latest deduction by the EFL due to the club’s problems off the pitch.

Wanderers will be aiming to build on their fifth-place finish this term and keep progressing under Ian Evatt.
