Wanderers have been linked with a move for Wimbledon midfielder Ethan Chislett ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chislett is out of contract and has been offered fresh terms by the London club, who finished 21st in League Two this season.

The Whites are interested in signing the attacking midfielder on a free transfer, according to Football Insider.

The report also claims that Portsmouth and Wycombe are looking at the 24-year-old, who scored 11 goals in 51 appearances this term.

South Africa-born Chislett, who spent time in Southampton’s Academy ranks as a youngster, made the move to Wimbledon in the summer of 2020 after impressing in the non-league pyramid.

Earlier this season, Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson said: “We know how important he is to our team, he gets picked most weeks.

“He is integral to what we’re doing at the minute. He’s enjoying the role, and he’s relishing playing in that position.

“He loves scoring goals and he’s getting in good positions every game. Whether he gets plaudits from outside or not, in the building we know how important he is to us. He’s having a good run.

“He’s enjoying the position that we have given him – it gives him that freedom and that license to get forward into the box.”

Kyle Dempsey was used in the number 10 role for Wanderers during the final months of the campaign.

Kieran Lee and Shola Shoretire also played in the role at times this season. Lee will leave the club at the end of his contract this summer, while Shoretire has returned to parent club Manchester United after his loan deal expired.

Portsmouth and Wycombe both missed out on a play-off spot, finishing eighth and ninth in the table respectively.

Pompey had an upturn in form since John Mousinho took charge at Fratton Park, succeeding Danny Cowley in the hot seat.

Meanwhile, Matt Bloomfield took charge at Adams Park in February after long-serving manager Gareth Ainsworth’s departure to join Championship club QPR.
