Former Wanderers striker Adam Le Fondre has parted ways with Sydney FC after a five-year stay with the Australian club.

Le Fondre joined the Whites on loan from Cardiff in 2015, scoring nine goals in 17 games under Neil Lennon.

The club were unable to re-sign the forward the following summer but he returned to the North West two years later, helping Phil Parkinson’s side secure promotion to the Championship.

He then signed a two-year deal at Bolton and was on target in the memorable victory against Nottingham Forest to beat the drop.

Le Fondre made the move to Sydney during the 2018/19 campaign and has enjoyed a successful spell in the A-League.

The 36-year-old found the net 73 times in 128 games and leaves the club as their second-highest ever goalscorer.

“Adam has been an unbelievable signing for Sydney FC and will be remembered as one of the club’s greatest strikers,” head coach Steve Corica told the club website. “He was one of my first signings as head coach and he has never let me or this club down.

“His ability to score goals whatever the conditions is invaluable and he will continue to do that wherever he plays.

“On behalf of the club, we thank him immensely for everything he has done for Sydney FC both on and off the park. We wish him and his family all the best.”

Le Fondre added: “My time with Sydney FC has been fantastic. It has been a joy to work with every player and member of staff, and to play in front of our fabulous fans.

“I would have loved to have stayed and gone on to break (Alex) Brosquey’s goalscoring record, however understand the club wants to make a change.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played here and to have been so successful, and I look forward to a new challenge in my career.”
