Dion Charles is set to be involved as Northern Ireland continue their European Championship qualifying campaign.

Charles enjoyed a fine season at Wanderers, scoring 21 goals in all competitions as Ian Evatt’s men finished fifth in League One before coming up just short against Barnsley in the play-off semi-final.

The 27-year-old bagged a brace in a 2-0 victory against San Marino earlier this year – his first goals on the international stage.

Conor Bradley is also in the squad, while Eoin Toal unfortunately had to pull out after picking up an ankle injury in training.

Michael O’Neill’s side travel to Copenhagen to take on Denmark on Friday night (7.45pm) before hosting Kazakhstan on Monday, June 19 (7.45pm).

Both fixtures will be broadcast live on Viaplay Sports 1 as part of their package to show every Euro qualifier apart from England games.

Viaplay is a streaming service that became available in the UK last November. Monthly and annual packages are available but unfortunately the free trials do not apply to live sports.

O’Neill’s side have taken three points from their opening two matches in Group H, having suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Finland last time out.

Former Northern Ireland captain Iain Dowie recently challenged Charles to become a “hero” for the national team.

“First and foremost, what we need is goals,” he told The Belfast Telegraph. “Michael is looking for heroes and I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Charles. The Bolton manager thinks very highly of him.

“His first goal against San Marino impressed me. It came to him at an awkward height and he made something that was difficult look very easy.

“He is not just very mobile but makes intelligent runs and moves well in the box. When you add the goals he scored, he could become a feature in Michael O’Neill’s team.”
