WANDERERS are willing to turn to Chelsea’s Nathan Baxter in their search for a new number one.

Due to be released by the Premier League club this summer, the 24-year-old is the latest name linked with the vacant goalkeeper spot with Bolton.

Baxter spent the last two seasons on loan with Hull City in the Championship and has 185 career games under his belt, all of which have been in loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

Reports at the weekend suggested Baxter also has an option in Israel with Maccabi Haifa having become a free agent this summer.

He had been with Chelsea since the age of seven and also had loans at Accrington Stanley, Ross County, Yeovil Town, Woking, Solihull Moore and the Metropolitan Police. He did not make an appearance in seven years on the Blues’ books but did win the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League in 2015/16.

Baxter went back for a second season-long spell with Hull last season with a view to making a permanent move this summer. But an ankle injury forced him out of action before the World Cup break and led to the Tigers signing Karl Darlow, who is now their number one goalkeeping target.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, manager Liam Rosenior said in April: "I think it's unlikely that Nathan will come back here, he's a very good goalkeeper, a great character and a great lad but with Karl being here, Karl at the moment is in the driving seat and he's someone who I'm looking forward to, hopefully, working with in the long-term if we can get that sorted out."

Wanderers want two new keepers and had previously been linked with Accrington Stanley’s Toby Savin.

The 22-year-old fell out of favour at the end of last season under John Coleman as the club were relegated from League One.

Brighton’s teenage stopper James Beadle has also been linked and having spent last season on loan with Crewe in League Two, his parent club are now looking to get him playing regularly at a higher level.

Oxford United have also been linked with England youth international Beadle, who played nine times last season before injury cut short his campaign.

Wanderers currently only have one professional keeper, Luke Hutchinson, who has yet to make a first team appearance.

James Trafford returned to Manchester City after spending the last 18 months on loan and Joel Dixon was released after two years with the club. He has since signed for Hartlepool United.

Since Jussi Jaaskelainen made the last of his 530 Bolton appearances on December 31, 2011, 12 different goalkeepers have been used by the club.
