Wanderers are reportedly ‘closing in’ on the signing of Bristol City defender Kane Wilson.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at West Brom and had loan spells at Exeter, Walsall and Tranmere in the early stages of his career.

He made the move to Forest Green in the summer of 2020 and went on to make 79 appearances during a two-year spell with the club.

Wilson’s consistent performances in League Two earned a move to the Championship with the Robins last summer.

But the wing-back made just seven appearances at Ashton Gate last season, falling down the pecking order due to a combination of injuries and a change in system from boss Nigel Pearson.

Wilson is now set to undergo a medical at Wanderers, according to a report by Bristol Live.

The report also claims that the Robins are expected to recoup a “six-figure fee” for the 23-year-old, who has two years left on his current deal.

The Whites are short in numbers on the right side of the back five, with Northern Irish international Conor Bradley returning to parent club Liverpool after a superb season in League One.

Gethin Jones has also been used as a wing-back at times, while Randell Williams slotted in on the right during the 3-2 victory at Bristol Rovers on the final day of the regular season.

Wanderers have already completed one bit of business this week, bringing in goalkeeper Nathan Baxter on a two-year deal following his Chelsea exit.

The Whites are also closing in on former Ipswich and Huddersfield goalkeeper Joel Coleman as Ian Evatt looks to replace James Trafford and Joel Dixon. Bolton-born Coleman played for North Walkden as a youngster.

England Under-21 international Trafford has returned to parent club Manchester City, while Dixon was released at the end of his contract and has since returned to National League side Hartlepool.
