LUKAS Jensen says a new-look Lincoln City will be ready for their season opener at Wanderers this weekend.

The Danish keeper was one of several new signings made by Mark Kennedy this summer which have sparked interest in the Imps as potential dark horses for promotion.

Jensen, who spent a short time on loan from Burnley at Bolton in 2021 but failed to make an appearance, joins two other former Whites loanees, Ethan Hamilton and Tyler Walker, in a re-shaped Imps squad which aims to turn some of last season’s draws into wins and push higher into the top half of the table.

Lincoln have also added Reeco Hackett, from Portsmouth, and Jaden Brown, from Sheffield Wednesday, and enjoyed a mixed bag in pre-season which ended with defeats against Rotherham United and Grimsby Town.

Jensen played for Stanley in a 1-0 defeat against Wanderers last season and believes his new club are primed for the visit.

"I think we're all in the mindset that we need to be ready for the first game, especially playing against a good team,” he said. “All the new signings are great lads, they've settled in both in the dressing room and on the pitch so I'm looking forward to playing with them.

"We're starting with an away game but I think we're all looking forward to playing at home again in front of a full stadium against Wycombe."

Lincoln saw last season’s first-choice keeper Carl Rushworth return to Brighton this summer – and move on to Swansea City in the Championship.

Jensen is seen as a longer-term project and believes he can prosper at a club which has traditionally been hard to beat on their own patch.

"Training is very structured here and the staff do a brilliant job, you can see how much passion they put into it and all the work going on behind the scenes. I had a version against Rotherham of how a proper home game will be, but obviously there will be a lot more fans in the league games.

"Wycombe will be my first home game and it can't come quick enough because to play in front of eight or nine thousand fans will give us that extra edge to hopefully win the game. What previous goalkeepers have achieved here is one of the reasons I signed.

"I've only had five or six weeks and I can already see an improvement, so to add two years on to that, I will be a completely different goalkeeper."

Jensen is also happier out of the big city environment he experienced in the North West.

“I lived in Manchester before which was way too busy for me so Lincoln is a nice in-between,” he added. “You have the quiet side and also the side where all the students are so it's a really nice mix and I'm enjoying it."
