Daisy Hill take a break from league action tomorrow when they travel to west Lancashire to face Skelmersdale United in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Skelmersdale are one of the North West’s big non-league names, and won the FA Amateur Cup, predecessor to the FA Vase, in season 1970/71.

However, after being relegated last season, due to ground grading issues, United have found it tough going back in the North West Counties League Premier Division, and have lost six of their seven games so far this season, with their one win coming in the FA Cup.

With the boost of Monday’s fine league win against Runcorn Town at New Sirs, Daisy will go into the game full of optimism and manager Lee Hill is hoping his side will be able to keep the momentum going.

“Runcorn Town are a good side, so to win like we did has given the lads a big confidence boost,” said Hill.

“That’s what we needed to take into Saturday, and hopefully a repeat of that performance will mean we are in with a chance.

“But in the end, Monday was only a one-off result and we have now to go out and show we can do it consistently.

“We are a new team, gaining new experiences, and now we have a trip to a Premier Division side in Skelmersdale, who are a good side and it’s a very tough game.

“The game has come at a nice time for us, there’s no pressure, and we can go there and enjoy ourselves.”

The game is being played at the Community Ground in Burscough, home of Burscough FC (3pm).

If the game is tied after 90 minutes, the tie will be decided by a penalty shootout, and the winners of tomorrow’s game will progress to the next round and a tie away at Runcorn Town on September 23.
