Burton boss Dino Maamria says his side will have to be on top of their game if they are to get something against Wanderers.

The Brewers have had a tough start to the new campaign, picking up just one point from their opening four matches.

Despite last weekend’s defeat against Wigan, Maamria insists the Whites have plenty of quality.

“We have a history of doing well and upsetting the bigger clubs and that’s what we will be looking to do again on Saturday,” he told the club website.

“To do that we have to be right on top of our game. Bolton are a top team, and they have quality players everywhere.

“They could field two teams and they would both finish in the top six. That’s how strong they are.

“Wigan were fortunate to score an early goal and that set the momentum of the game, but that doesn’t change the fact that Bolton are a very good team.”

Burton held Wycombe to a goalless draw at Adams Park last weekend, and Maamria felt they deserved all three points.

The boss is eager to build on their performance against the Chairboys as they aim to climb off the bottom of the table at this early stage.

“We got one or two players back and we looked totally different, solid and after the break we played mostly in their half,” he added.

“We had a few hairy moments in the first half, but Max (Crocombe) was brilliant. Every team has those moments in games and the good teams have players who step up in those moments and Max was fantastic for us when they had a couple of chances early on.

“If we had conceded, we could have ended up in the same predicament but because Max produced when he needed to that kept us in the game and gave us belief and confidence.

“That enabled us to dominate the second half and Mason (Bennett) was really unlucky not to score and John (Brayford) missed by inches.

“It was a performance worthy of three points, but it will happen and there were lots of positives – our first point on the board, an important first clean sheet and a lot to build on.”

Jamal Blackman, who joined on a free transfer from Exeter over the summer, missed the Wycombe trip but should be available to face Wanderers.

Tom Hamer, Mason Bennett and John Brayford are all injury doubts, while Josh Walker has returned to training following a spell out of action.

“These injuries have hampered us,” Maamria explained. “We have had players in the wrong position, changing shape and it has been very difficult.

“It happens to every team at times in the season. It was just unfortunate that it happened to us at the start of the season.

“Josh is back on the grass and hopefully he is very close - next weekend if not this week. Jamal has missed a couple of days training but he should be fine for Saturday.

“Tom Hamer remains touch and go. We gave him a week’s rest to look after his broken toe and we will have to see how he is.”
