Reading boss Ruben Selles says his side must find a “winning mentality” ahead of their clash with Wanderers.

The Royals are currently 20th in the League One table on five points as they aim to bounce back from last season’s relegation from the second tier.

Selles’ side have racked up home wins against Cheltenham and Stevenage but started the campaign with a one-point deduction due to problems of the pitch.

They were beaten 1-0 at Cambridge before the international break – a third successive defeat on the road - after Fejiri Okenabirhie's winner seven minutes from time.

“We’ve had some games where we have been doing the things we are wanting to do, and others where we haven’t done the things we have practised, so we need to be more consistent in our performance,” said Selles.

“The task is different. Everyone knows what has been going on but talking about that is only going to be an excuse.

“We need to perform better and win football matches. We are competitive against any team but we need to find a way to win matches and compete away from home.

“I don’t know how far we can go with the team because there’s a lot of changes, the situation is not simple but we have shown we can win football matches.”

The Royals have one of the youngest squads in the division this season and submitted their official squad to the EFL earlier this week, featuring just 13 senior outfield players.

Wanderers haven’t faced Reading since January 2019 when Jack Hobbs scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw in the Championship.

The Whites’ last win in the fixture came several months prior, with Yanic Wildschut scoring the decisive goal in Berkshire.
