Luke Mbete spent the second half of last season at Wanderers and is now embracing a new challenge in Holland.

Mbete joined the Whites on loan from Manchester City after a difficult stint in the Championship with Huddersfield.

The England Under-21 defender made nine appearances for Ian Evatt’s side before his campaign was cut short by injury.

Last month, he headed out on loan to the second tier of Dutch football to continue his development at Den Bosch.

"I wanted to go abroad to step out of my comfort zone. It's good to play in a different league and discover a new culture,” the youngster told de Volkskrant.

“I want to learn new things and be able to adapt in a new environment. I am also open to constructive criticism, which helps me as a footballer.”

Mbete has shared a dressing room with some big names at City, having featured in a Champions League tie against Sporting in 2022.

"When you work with the best players in the world, you automatically become better - not only on the field, but also off it,” he continued.

“Whether it concerns nutrition or recovery after a tough workout, I could ask them anything because they were once in my shoes too.

“(Kevin) de Bruyne said that it was not always easy, but that he always kept faith in the path he was on. He assured me that the right mindset it what it’s all about.”

Den Bosch have had a tough start to the new campaign, winning one of their opening five league fixtures.

Technical director Yousuf Sajjad explained: “When we were looking for a centre-back, (Mbete) was at the top of my list but I knew it was an ambitious target to sign him.”

“Of course, he has the qualities to play at this level but we think his mentality and attitude are just as important. During our first conversation, he took notes. That said a lot to me.”
