Wanderers’ League One fixture against Barnsley on Saturday, October 14 has been postponed due to international call-ups.

The club confirmed in an official statement that a new date for the game will be announced “in due course”.

Barnsley have had a decent start to the campaign and currently sit fifth in the League One table, having won five of their opening nine matches so far.

Neill Collins took charge at Oakwell over the summer following Michael Duff’s move to the Championship with Swansea.

Wanderers faced the Tykes in the play-off semi-final last season, narrowly missing out on a return to Wembley.

Dion Charles cancelled out Nicky Cadden’s opener in the first leg but Liam Kitching got the decisive goal in the return fixture, beating James Trafford with a bullet header after getting on the end of Luca Connell’s cross.

Ian Evatt’s men ran out 3-0 winners at Oakwell in the league several months prior thanks to goals from Dion Charles, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Kyle Dempsey. The hosts played around 80 minutes 10 men after Mads Andersen was shown a straight red card.

The Whites also saw their clash with Shrewsbury postponed last month, with five players called up for international duty.

That fixture, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, September 9, will now be played on Tuesday, November 7 (7.45pm).

Shrewsbury find themselves 17th in the table at this stage, having taken nine points from their opening eight matches.

Former Bolton midfielder Matt Taylor took charge at New Meadow over the summer, succeeding Steve Cotterill in the hot seat.
