Stevenage boss Steve Evans says he “would love to see” Wanderers win promotion to the Championship come the end of the season.

Evans spent time with the Whites as a youngster after he was spotted by Ian Greaves in Glasgow in the late seventies. However, he didn’t make a first-team appearance for the club.

The 60-year-old says it is a “great club” and hopes they can keep making progress in their efforts to climb back up the EFL.

“I wish the club every success,” he said. “We will try our best to beat them when they come and play us at the Lamex.

“But other than that, I would love to see them go and get promoted because they are a great club.”

Dion Charles, Jack Iredale and Josh Sheehan were all on target for Wanderers, who were twice pegged back by Jamie Reid.

Evans labelled the refereeing performance “horrendous” after the final whistle and felt the home crowd influenced decisions at times.

“I think the crowd spoke tonight, they got them decisions,” he continued. “These are good, honest people, the Bolton public.

“I think they expect Iredale to go off just before half time for a second yellow, he doesn’t get it, and I think they expect the challenge on (Carl) Piergianni to be punished with a red card.

“There were two or three other instances in the middle of the park but there is no point me talking anymore, I will put myself in trouble.”

Wanderers have now won back-to-back games in the league and are building momentum ahead of the upcoming international break.

Ian Evatt’s men are back in action at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon when Carlisle come to town (3pm).
