Conor Carty’s goal helped St Patrick’s Athletic secure their place in the FAI Cup final over the weekend.

The Wanderers youngster secured the result eight minutes from time with an instinctive finish after Jay McLelland’s effort had been saved by Ollie Byrne.

Jon Daly’s side had earlier gone in front through Mark Doyle and will now face Bohemians in the final on Sunday, November 12.

"I'm over the moon for everyone connected with the club. Players and staff, everyone works tirelessly,” said Daly. “And the fans who travelled down in massive numbers, they had to follow us all over the country this year in the cup.

"Even under Tim (Clancy), we believed in the group. We knew the players we had here were good players, it was just a case of trying to get them to believe in themselves.

"I'm very pleased with the group and for the fans. The people behind the scenes work tirelessly to make things go right.

“They've been great for me coming in as manager, trying to make sure we can professionalise the club a bit more and drive the standards a bit more.

"Everyone bought into it, which is great, and it's just rewards to get to a cup final and give ourselves a chance to win a trophy in November."

Carty has made a positive impression since heading out on loan and has also been selected in the latest Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their upcoming Euro qualifier against Latvia.

The forward was called up to the squad for the first time in June and scored in a friendly against Kuwait that was later abandoned following allegations of a racist remark towards an Irish substitute.
