Wanderers’ B Team are back in Central League Cup action against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday afternoon (2pm).

The fixture takes place at the Eddie Davies Training Ground and supporters are able to attend, although parking is limited.

The young Whites drew 2-2 against Stockpot County in their opener, with Ben Andreucci and Noah Halford both getting on the scoresheet at Carrington.

Huddersfield beat Rotherham 5-1 last week, with 17-year-old Hazeem Bakre scoring a hat trick. Stephan Padrao and Mustapha Olagunju were also on target for the Terriers.

Stockport are currently top of Group A with four points, although they are the only side to have played two matches at this stage. Huddersfield are second and Bolton third, while Rotherham and Salford are still waiting for their first points.

Meanwhile, Group B is made up of Accrington, Blackburn, Burnley, Preston and Wrexham. Group C features Barrow, Wigan, Carlisle and Blackpool, with Derby, Mansfied, Lincoln and Notts County making up Group D.

Once the group stage has been completed, the top side in each group will advance to the knockout stage.

Last season’s competition was won by Blackpool, who beat Wigan on penalties in the final at Bloomfield Road.

Head of Academy Dave Gardiner will take charge of Wanderers’ B Team while Matt Craddock has stepped up to the first-team picture to serve as an interim coach following Sam Hird’s departure.

Hird, who arrived at the club in 2021 after promotion from League Two, has taken up a role at the Professional Footballers’ Association.

Craddock took charge of the second string in May 2022 and will be considered for the position on a full-time basis. Ian Evatt also confirmed there had been a high level of interest in joining his coaching team with applicants from across the UK.
