WANDERERS (3-4-1-2).

NATHAN BAXTER…6.

A complete bystander for the most part. A couple of passing mix-ups didn’t help the nerves later on but never looked under any serious pressure.

GETHIN JONES…7.

Big call to put him back into the team straight away but rewarded the decision with a pretty solid show. Pushed forward to great effect with Dacres-Cogley early on.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.

A few rusty touches, which thankfully went unpunished, but also a few moments that remind you just what a good defender he is at this level.

EOIN TOAL…7.

Looked confident, as well he might on the week he made his international debut. Covered really well, used his pace and moved the ball well down the left side.

JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.

Effective in the early stages but looked a little ragged after the half time break, which is quite out of character.

JOSH SHEEHAN…6.5.

Was running the show for a while. Didn’t get on the ball anywhere near as much in the second half but one of the few who didn’t give the ball away.

GEORGE THOMASON…7.

Other than being a tad shot-shy, Thomason did a bit of everything and covered a lot of ground. Chased every loose ball in midfield.

RANDELL WILLIAMS…7.5.

Created one and scored one, a constant outlet on the left throughout. Worked well with Thomason and full of energy.

AARON MORLEY…6.5.

Produced the pass of the day for Williams’ goal, and there were plenty of other classy touches besides. Ran out of steam a bit in the end.

DION CHARLES…6.5.

A typical bit of poaching to grab his ninth of the season. Loose in possession at times, which was a downside, but did his bit.

VICTOR ADEBOYEJO…6.

Worked hard and got into some good positions through sheer persistence but lacked a touch of composure, which was a shame.

Subs: Maghoma 74 (for Morley), Nlundulu 79 (for Charles), Bodvarsson 79 (for Adeboyejo).

Not used: Iredale, Coleman, Forrester, Jerome.

Northampton (4-2-3-1): Burge; Odimayo, Sherring, Monthe, Brough; McWilliams, Leonard; Bowie, Pinnock, Hoskins; Simpson.

Subs: Willis 45 (for Bowie), Kolki 61 (for Brough), Lintott 74 (for Odimayo), Hondermarck 74 (for Simpson).

Not used: McGowan, Haynes, Thompson.

Tactics 6/10: There had been a lot of discussion about Jones’s re-introduction but it worked well early on, with Bolton playing some of their best football of the season. The problems after half time were puzzling. Evatt said his half-time messaging went “out of the window” and it nearly proved costly.

Referee: Martin Coy 7/10 – Played a couple of good advantages and let the game flow. No silly cards, and not a lot either side could complain about.
