Portsmouth will be without top-scorer Colby Bishop for their top of the table clash with Wanderers on Monday night.

Bishop, who has scored 11 goals in League One this season, hasn’t featured since the 2-0 victory at Burton. The former Accrington man was pictured wearing a protective boot after injuring his ankle.

Boss John Mousinho shared an update on the prolific forward following Pompey’s 3-0 win at Northampton last weekend.

He told BBC Solent: “We are sending him away for a second opinion because we are relatively positive on it. Hopefully, we are thinking it is going to be about a month, which is good news.

‘‘There are just a couple of things we have to check. There is scar tissue there from a previous injury which sometimes shows up on the scan, so we want to make sure and that is why we are having a second opinion.

“It is not the terrible news that everybody was fearing it could be. It is not going to be a quick fix, but we are looking at weeks rather than months at this stage.

“I’d be very surprised (if he wasn’t back before the end of the year), especially with Colby’s constitution and the way he wants to get back in and play.”

Paddy Lane bagged a brace and Sean Raggett was also on target as Mousinho’s side secured all three points against the Cobblers to return to the top of the table while Wanderers were in FA Cup action.

The Pompey boss was full of praise for his side after the final whistle. He stated: “I thought we were excellent from start to finish.

“Coming off a really professional performance in the week (at Burton), I thought it was more of the same in the first half.

“We were brave on the ball and we earned the right to play some really good football in the second half. It was a pleasure to watch.

“My only criticism was that we didn’t put the game further out of reach because we had chances and we had opportunities, but we didn’t take them.”

Joe Morrell missed the last couple of games through suspension after he was sent off during the 4-0 defeat against Blackpool, but the midfielder is back available for the visit of Wanderers.
