Daisy Hill hit the goal trail in impressive style with a 6-2 win against West Lancashire League side Tempest United in a friendly on Saturday.

With Daisy’s home game against AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties League being rained off, and Tempest’s league fixture at home to Thornton Cleveleys suffering a similar fate, a friendly was arranged on the all-weather surface at Westhoughton High School.

And despite the wet and windy conditions, both sides served up an entertaining affair, with the highlight being a hat-trick from Daisy striker Ryan Talbot.

Daisy opened the scoring in the eighth minute, when Sam Twist’s run and cross from the right set up a chance for Jamie Ramwell to side-foot home from 10 yards.

Tempest levelled at the midway point of the half with a well-taken goal from Tom Booth past Daisy keeper Morgan Newns.

Just after the half hour, Talbot added a second for Daisy after Alex Dodd and Jake O’Brien combined to set up a chance for the striker to slide home at the near post.

Seven minutes later, Talbot struck again, this time with a 25-yard shot that looped over the keeper into the net, and five minutes before half time Ramwell hit the underside of the bar.

Two minutes into the second half, Talbot completed his treble with a close-range finish.

Tempest hit back and seven minutes later pulled a goal back when Booth advanced through on goal, and although Newns was able to beat out the first shot, the midfielder followed up to blast home.

As the conditions worsened, the game fell into a dogged midfield battle, and it took until eight minutes from time for Daisy to grab a fifth goal, when a through ball from Howarth set up Twist for a low shot into the bottom corner.

With a couple of minutes remaining, Dodd was the creator of Daisy’s sixth of the afternoon when his through ball was coolly finished by Twist.

Daisy’s next scheduled fixture in the North West Counties Football League is on Saturday, when they host Ilkley Town at the Plumb Factory Stadium (3pm).
