Teenage Elton Cricket Club player, George Harris, has been selected for Lancashire’s boys’ academy.

The 16-year-old batsman is one of three youngsters announced for the county club’s intake for the 2024 season.

Harris, who attends St Gabriel’s in Bury, represented North of England at the ECB’s Bunbury Festival in August.

The squad led by Lancashire Cricket’s head of talent pathway, Chris Benbow, have been undertaking a winter training programme in the Trafford Cricket Centre at Emirates Old Trafford throughout the winter months and will then move into an outdoor training programme and fixture schedule for the 2024 season.

Benbow told the club’s website: “Congratulations to our three new members of the Lancashire Cricket Academy. I wish them the best of luck as they continue their journey with us after progressing through the County Age Group system.

“In the last 12 months, it has been brilliant to see Tom Aspinwall and Mathhew Hurst make their first-team debuts for the Red Rose and impress after progressing through the academy system and signing their first professional rookie contracts with the club, while another academy graduate in Harry Singh also signed his first rookie deal.

“The progression of these players, and many more within our first-team set-up, demonstrates to our current group of academy players that there is a clear route to professional cricket here with us and it is now down to them to continue to work hard and head towards a career in professional cricket – and we will do all we can to support their journeys.”
