Burton caretaker boss Gary Mills hailed his side’s “effort and application” despite losing 1-0 against Wanderers.

Jasper Moon scored an unfortunate own goal early in the second half when John Brayford’s clearance deflected off the Burton man.

The Whites had a number of good chances to add to their lead but failed to take them, with Max Crocombe making several good stops.

“It hurts, no-one enjoys losing games,” Mills said after the final whistle. “But the application of the boys was immense.

“We came with a gameplan and looked organised and structured. It is just a shame we couldn’t come away with at least a point.

“(The goal) is just one of those things. He has cleared it, he defended for his life as he does.

“It has come off Jasper and it is disappointing that it was just after we had an unbelievable chance to go one up.

“It is what it is, we don’t moan. All we ask for is application, effort and sticking to the gameplan. That is what the lads did today and we are really proud of it.”

Steve Seddon was named in the starting line-up but was withdrawn before kick-off, with Kwadwo Baah taking his place.

“He felt his hamstring in the warm-up so we had to be careful with that one,” the caretaker boss clarified.

“Then young Will Tamen came onto bench, which is fantastic for him. It shows how together the group is that we just got on with it.

It disrupts certain bits of the gameplan but we got on with it, and it is credit to Bobby (Kamwa) that he popped into that position seamlessly.”

The Brewers didn’t have many moments in the final third, and Mills says it is an area they need to improve.

“The back half of the pitch and the organisation of the team is good, it is just about having those killer moments and that bit of quality,” he said.

“We get into the final third quite a bit and it is just about having that killer edge to get us a goal.”
