CONOR Carty will spend the second half of the season on loan with League Two Doncaster Rovers.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was officially confirmed by the South Yorkshire club this evening and will go straight into their squad for Saturday’s game at Harrogate Town.

Rovers boss Grant McCann said his club had beaten off competition from elsewhere in the league to secure the 21-year-old’s signature, after his successful spell at St Patrick’s in the first half of the campaign.

“Conor’s a good player,” he said. “He’s athletic, he wants to run in-behind, he’s a good finisher.

“He’s come here off the back of a good loan with St Pat’s which went really well for him. They won the cup in Ireland and finished in the top three which was a really good season for them.

“We’re really pleased to get him because there was quite a bit of interest in him from the EFL.”

Carty arrived at Wanderers in the summer of 2022 from Wolves and scored in his first professional appearance, netting a late equaliser in the Papa Johns Trophy at Tranmere Rovers.

After spending the season with the B Team and having short spells on loan with Oldham Athletic and Gateshead he was then sent out to Ireland to develop his game, and reports from Dublin were favourable.

Carty was given a couple of weeks to rest in December, after which Wanderers wanted to find him a club at League Two level to test his progression.

“I’m delighted,” Carty told Doncaster Rovers’ official website. “As soon as I knew the move was coming up, I jumped on it straight away. I’m really happy to be here.

“To come to such a big club like Doncaster now, I’m really excited for it.”
