WANDERERS have managed to rearrange their game against Cheltenham Town – but not without the help of a few favours!

The Robins will return to the Toughsheet Stadium next Tuesday (January 23, 7.45pm kick-off) to replay the game abandoned at the weekend after 29 minutes because of a medical emergency in the crowd.

With so few midweek slots available, finding a new date presented a logistical challenge for the club, who are still competing in both the FA Cup and Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

After investigating whether the quarter-final at Blackpool could be moved to January 23, Wanderers then looked at bringing the home game against Shrewsbury Town – due to be played on March 23 – forward by several weeks.

When neither proved possible, rescheduling Cheltenham’s visit looked as though it would have to wait until after Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay against Luton Town, when the layout of fixtures to the end of the month would be clearer to map.

But after consulting with the EFL, the club was given a helping hand by Burton Albion, who agreed to move their home game against Cheltenham to facilitate Bolton’s need.

On top of that, Greater Manchester Police also had to rubber stamp the move, with Wigan Athletic also due to play on the same night against Wycombe Wanderers.

Should Bolton progress against Luton tomorrow night they will have to reschedule their away game at Carlisle United on Saturday, January 27.

Likewise, there is an international break coming up in March which will require the Shrewsbury home match to be moved, if as expected, a handful of players are called up to play for their country.

The prospect of playing Saturday-Tuesday most weeks between now and the end of the season is not something which worries manager, Ian Evatt.

“We are going to have a lot of games but great,” he said. “I enjoy watching my team play, the players enjoy playing football and the fans enjoy watching us play. I am not going to sit here and whinge and moan about it.

“To win promotions and go far in competitions, you have to win football matches and that is what we all set out to do at the start of the season.

“Nobody said it was going to be easy, we are going to have to earn it and from where we stand right now, it is no different.

“We will have to earn it, but we think we are capable of doing that. We will look forward to it and do all we can to prepare the players in the right possible way.”
