B Team boss Andy Taylor felt there were plenty of positives to take from an eventful first game in charge.

The young Whites were beaten 2-1 by Preston North End despite Gez Sithole’s opener. Play was suspended after half an hour due to the weather conditions but eventually resumed on an artificial pitch.

“I have never been involved in a game that has changed venues halfway through, so that was an interesting one,” Taylor smiled.

“It was a challenge but I said that to the players. Things like that happen in football, you get things thrown at you and things that are out of your control.

“If you take your eyes of what you can control, which is your performance, then you come unstuck.

“I said before the game that it was all about mentality – the conditions were horrible, the pitch was what it was.

“That is where we learn about the players who have that elite mentality. I learnt quite a lot about a few of them for different reasons.”

Bolton had some good moments in the second half but couldn’t find the equaliser that their performance warranted.

“We controlled the game without really threatening, and that was my criticism,” Taylor continued.

“We had a lot of play around their box without much penetration or end product but we haven’t done much on that.

“The main focus has been on out of possession since I came in, and there is loads to work on in terms of final third stuff. But in terms of controlling the game, it was a good start.

“At the end of the day, we were undone by a moment where we haven’t shifted across and dealt with the danger in the wide area, and then we conceded a set-piece goal.

“But there were loads of positives and loads of things for me look at to review.”

Andrew Tutte has been a key part of the B Team project since its launch, and Taylor is excited to work with the former Wanderers midfielder.

“Tuttey has been brilliant since day one, he is a bundle of energy,” he said. “He has really helped me transition in terms of learning the processes here.

“Obviously, every club does things differently and Tuttey has been here for a long time.

“He has a great relationship with the players and has great standards as well, which he drives whether he is on the touchline with me or involved in the sessions.

“He has been really helpful for me and he’s a big part of the B Team project and what it is about. I am looking forward to working with him.”
