Barnsley boss Neill Collins was “disappointed” that his side didn’t take all three points against Wanderers.

The Tykes took an early lead when Devante Cole slotted home from close range, but Bolton hit back through Zac Ashworth’s header after the break.

Barnsley had a good spell early in the second half, with Cole and John McAtee both denied by Nathan Baxter.

“I think it says a lot about our performance that you go in the dressing room and there was disappointment,” said Collins.

“Disappointment for the right reasons because coming out in the second half, we created a load of chances against a very good side. Had we scored one of those, I think we would have gone on and won the game.

“But I am not disappointed with the performance, and also respecting the face that Bolton had moments in the game where they put us under pressure.

“But I think when you create the chances we crated, at the times in the game we did, you probably feel like three points would have been fair.”

He added: “The plan, as you can see coming out for the second half, was to get the second goal. I think when you are on top like that, you think, ‘We need to get it now’ because there will come a point’.

“It was disappointing that we lost a goal to their first attack in the second half, but I thought we then came back well. After that, the game could have gone either way but the most pleasing thing was the performance.”

Collins admitted that his side could have done better with the equaliser but refused to put too much blame on that one moment.

“There are always little things that could have been better, and we could have definitely prevented it,” he continued.

“But I thought everyone to a man was very good today, so I am not going to pick the bones out of it too much. We probably shouldn’t have conceded the goal, but we should have probably scored other chances.

“I believe if we perform like that from now until the end of the season, we will put ourselves in a good spot.”
