Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has been charged by the FA following his red card against Northampton Town.

Evatt was informed at the half-time interval that he would not be allowed to take his place in the technical area during the second half against the Cobblers.

The Bolton chief had protested against referee Jeremy Simpson’s decision to show George Thomason a straight red card for a foul on Aaron McGowan during the opening 45 minutes.

The Whites went on to draw the game 1-1, with Carlos Mendes Gomes coming off the bench to score the equaliser.

Wanderers had filed their argument with the FA’s disciplinary committee, which meant that Evatt could take his place in the dugout for the 2-1 win against Wycombe on Tuesday night.

An official statement via the FA Spokesperson account read: “Bolton Wanderers FC manager Ian Evatt has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following their EFL League One fixture against Northampton Town FC on Saturday, February 10.

“It’s alleged that during the half-time interval, he acted in an improper manner and used abusive words towards a match official, leading to his dismissal.

“He has until February 16 to respond to the charge.”

Earlier this week, Evatt said: “I think it was a really poor refereeing performance and there are not many people who would argue with that.

“At half time I articulated the argument really clearly. There was no aggression, no swearing, but the tolerance level for me compared to their manager I believe was completely different on the day."

Wanderers had also appealed Thomason's red card at the Sixfields Stadium but were unsuccessful, meaning the midfielder was absent from the squad against Wycombe. He will also miss the upcoming fixtures against Charlton and Cambridge.
