Ian Evatt is prepared for a tough test against Charlton this weekend and insists the Addicks are capable of getting “big results” despite their recent struggles.

The London club are teetering above the League One relegation zone but have a fresh sense of belief after Nathan Jones took charge at the Valley.

Evatt is eager to build on Tuesday night’s victory against Wycombe as the Whites aim to further their promotion push. He also believes they can gain some perspective from the situation at Charlton this season.

“Sometimes seeing how other clubs are doing can give you a sense of perspective at your own club,” he said.

“Charlton are a massive football club that have also been in the Premier League, and they have spent an awful lot of money and an awful lot of time at this level.

“Sometimes we should look at that and maybe have some perspective of where we are at with our journey and what we are doing right now.

“I think that is a good reminder for us not to take anything for granted and to enjoy the experience and journey that we are on.

“But also we know that they are a football club with very good players and a very good manager, they are capable of getting big results.

“There will be no complacency from us on Saturday. We know that we must play well to get a result against them.”

Wanderers finished ninth in their first season back in the third tier before reaching the play-offs last term.

The Whites currently sit third in the table and are in a strong position given their games in hand on the two sides above them, Portsmouth and Derby.

“I am the same as most, my mentality and mindset is always on the next challenge,” Evatt continued.

“How can we get better? How do we go again? Where is the next opportunity for us? You tend to let slip what has already been achieved or what we are achieving right now in this moment.

“MK Dons, for instance - not that they are the same size of club as us - but to finish third and get relegated the next season.

“Now, seeing a huge club like Charlton in a relegation fight and having struggles should give us a sense of perspective that this club is on the right path and the right journey. We should not take that for granted.”

Jones was managing in the top flight with Southampton 12 months ago.

“The standard of coaching is improving (in League One),” said Evatt. “It is great for Charlton that they are able to attract a coach of Nathan’s nature - he has got a great record and he has managed in the Premier League.

“It just shows the size of club that Charlton are if Nathan thinks it is a great project for him to take over, get hold of it and put the club on the right path.

“It is a clear sign of the size of the clubs at this level and also the coaching talent in this country.”
