Barnsley boss Neill Collins admitted his side’s 2-2 draw against Wanderers was tough to take after conceding in stoppage time.

The hosts led thanks to goals from John McAtee and Donovan Pines, but the Whites hit back through Victor Adeboyejo.

Randell Williams equalised in the eighth minute of stoppage time after Josh Sheehan’s spot kick had been saved by Liam Roberts.

“It is disappointing because you are 2-0 up and have had a fantastic performance up to the 80th or 85th minute,” said Collins. “Then they got on top.

“We are all really disappointed because we wanted to be celebrating three points and for large parts of the game, we probably deserved the three points.

“But we were up against a really good side. Once they get a goal back, you are going to be under pressure and I think we could have handled it a little better. With Liam Roberts’ performance, we nearly managed to get the win.

“We have got to be careful that we don’t feel the disappointment for too long because we have got 11 games left.

“We are a point closer to where we need to be and we have played against a really good opponent tonight.

“There is a reason we are neck-and-neck in the league. We are disappointed but I think we have got to take the positives and learn some harsh lessons as well.”

The penalty was awarded after substitute Cameron Jerome was judged to have been fouled while trying to get on the end of George Thomason’s cross.

“I have not seen it again,” Collins continued. “By all accounts, it was.

“The thing that was most frustrating was the referee was closest to it and didn’t flinch. The linesman gave it and he seemed further away.

“It is frustrating that maybe the referee let the game get a bit out of hand a few times.

“I thought there were a few decisions that could have gone either way. Prior to their first goal, he gave a free kick that wasn’t a free kick.

“But we have to look at what we did really well, lots of things, and what we need to do better. There are definitely a few things we can take on board and if we just blame the officials, we won’t learn anything.

“We have got 11 games left and if we continue to improve, we will be there or thereabouts.”
