Bolton Rugby Club hosts their Blackburn counterparts this weekend for a girls’ touch rugby session.

As part of the RFU’s Rugby United programme, Blackburn Rugby Club have collaborated with the One Voice programme in the town to provide indoor ‘touch rugby’ sessions for Muslim girls.

And as Blackburn do not have a girls’ section, they have been invited down to play at Bolton’s Avenue Street base this Sunday at 1pm.

The session will be an introduction to outdoor touch rugby with Bolton’s Amazons girls teams.

Girls rugby is a growing sport and both clubs want to give all girls the opportunity to get involved and give it a try.

A Rugby United statement said: “Across the country there are individuals and communities who are missing out what rugby has to offer.

“These include benefits to physical and mental health, the friendships and social connections, and the values and life skills it embodies.

“They are missing out, not because they don’t enjoy the game or have a preference to other sports, but rather due to a lack of opportunity, and barriers to entry which infer rugby is not for them.”
