Oxford striker Greg Leigh admits they might have to adapt their style as they prepare to face Wanderers.

Leigh, who scored a late winner against Cheltenham at the weekend, is expecting a tough test against the Whites.

But the 29-year-old believes the U’s can take heart from their performance against Portsmouth earlier this week, eventually coming up just short at Fratton Park.

“Tuesday is going to be a big game,” he said. “I think the team we are playing will dictate the way we play. When you play these bigger teams, these better teams, they bring intensity.

“We played Portsmouth and did a good job so the idea now is to play well but also get the result. I think we can do that on Tuesday.”

Oxford sit seventh in the League One table following their victory against the Robins – a point off the play-off places heading into the business end of the campaign.

After the final whistle, boss Des Buckingham explained: “It was an important result. Last week, we went to Portsmouth and played extremely well but came away with nothing.

“We faced a very different test against a strong Cheltenham, who play very differently to Portsmouth and different to what Bolton will test us with on Tuesday. It was a test we needed to stand up to and it is not easy as you want it to be at times. Often, these are the games that can catch you out.

“I thought it took us a while to get going and when we did for the final 10 or 15 minutes of the first half, we got the goal we deserved and probably should have had one or two more. Second half, I thought we had control of the game.

“We switched off for a moment and started sitting back when we need to continue stepping forward because that is what has got us the success.

“Despite the equaliser, what was pleasing was the reaction. We want and went again and even when we got what turned out to be the winner, we made sure that we continued to work.

“There was clear learning on the pitch because we scored the second and continued to press them rather than dropping off.”

Buckingham’s side had gone four league games without a victory prior to their win against Cheltenham.

The points were shared when Wanderers headed to the Kassam Stadium in November following a goalless draw.
