Lostocker Rachel Hancock competed in the Grasmere Duathlon last Saturday and had a fine race.

This is a beautiful race in the Lakes in which takes athletes around Grasmere Village on paths and trails before riding around the roads towards Elterwater.

Hancock completed the sprint distance, consisting of a 5k run, 20k bike ride and a 2.5k run. She finished the duathlon in 1hr 44mins 8secs, crossing the finish line as the fourth female and first in her age category.

Mark Checkley completed the Chicken Run in Hayfield on a cold and windy day.

The race starts with a run up Lantern Pike - a slow start as there were a lot of stiles.

Checkley had a strong run on the downhill section, gaining places.

The race has a ‘chicken out’ point where runners can opt for a shorter route, but Checkley was feeling confident and able to continue.

The second climb was Crown Hill and participants then contoured along the side of Lantern Pike.

Checkley had an amazing run and completed the 8.5-miles course in 1:53:00, despite the 1,800 feet elevation gain.

Parkrun results: Haigh Woodland - Chris Barker 23:18 (second in age category), Andy Laycock 25:02, Katie Edern 28:51 (first in age category), Karen Taylor 33:28; Selby - Ian Burns 28:01.
