Aaron Collins has relished being around Cameron Jerome at Wanderers and hopes to keep learning from the veteran’s experience.

The pair started up front together during the 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury in midweek, with Jerome getting on the scoresheet.

“It has been nice to be around Cam since I came in,” Collins told The Bolton News. “We have little conversations and even talking about promotion, Cam has been there and done it.

“He has been at the top level and scoring goals for most of his career. As a striker, that is where you want to be.

“Even if he is not starting, he will have a little conversation and it is good advice. He is an enjoyable character to be around.

“On Tuesday, I thought we started sharp. We worked well and created chances, but we were not able to get the lead.

“We went 1-0 and then 2-1 down, it is always a different game when you are in the lead. But I enjoyed playing with him.”

The Welshman has already had several strike partners since arriving at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in January.

“I didn’t start the first few games when I was getting eased into it. I came in and started one game with Dion, he got injured,” he recalled.

“Then me and Vic got four or five games under out belts together and then it went to Jon, now he is out!

“It is tough as a striker when you are working with someone different, you need to learn how they want to play. (Injuries) are frustrating but we just have to get on with it.”

It is always tough for players who move clubs mid-season, particularly coming into a side pushing for promotion.

However, Collins has been getting stronger and stronger in recent weeks as he continues to adapt to Ian Evatt’s system.

The 26-year-old has scored five goals in his last four appearances, including a brilliant hat trick against Reading earlier this month.

He is feeling more settled in the North West and hopes that will continue to shine through in his performances on the pitch.

“With the living situation, that is something you have got to deal with,” Collins continued. “Moving up here is all part of it, the first couple of weeks are getting used to living in a hotel and getting used to the lads.

“After living at home for so long and being around family and friends often, suddenly you just have the lads who you don’t know that well when you first come to the club.

“On the pitch, getting goals is the main thing. The fans can back you as much as you want but if you are not scoring, you are kicking yourself.

“I have always said I think my assists are as important as my goals, and in the last few weeks the weight has been on me and Jon to supply.

“I think we did that and going into the last few games now, I have got to keep supplying. The lads coming back in, we have got to get the job done.”
