Wanderers have published their retained list after missing out on promotion via the play-offs, but what have fans had to say?

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Cameron Jerome and Declan John will all depart the Toughsheet Community Stadium this summer at the end of their respective deals.

A number of B Team prospects will also be moving on including Finlay Lockett, who was part of the ‘Junior Whites’ against Coventry in 2019.

Here’s what the Bolton faithful said on social media about the releases and how they will affect the squad next season

Ian Rowbottom: “No surprises, I like only having three players released. It means you’re not doing a massive overhaul, just fine tuning. We need Dacres-Cogley competition, Paris needs replacing along with another midfielder. Four strikers should be plenty.”

Chris McKeown: “No major surprises. I would like to see Jerome continue on a coaching capacity perhaps. Finlay Lockett once seemed to have promise but perhaps the injury a while back derailed his potential here.”

Steve Connolly: “As expected. They all did a job (including Jerome eventually becoming a cult hero) but the correct decision in all cases.”

James Jarvis: “No real surprises. While JDB and Jerome may be the headliners, I want to give Dec John his flowers. Key to our League Two promotion & helped us win the Papa Johns Trophy. Good luck to everyone released, including our B-Teamers. Congrats to the scholars and other B-Teamers receiving their new deals.”

Ste Jenkinson: “Love JDB! Sorry to see him go. He is exactly the kind of CF we need in this team, just couldn’t keep him fit. Shame.”

Ian Massey: “I realise 99% disagree but I genuinely believe the JDB decision is very short sighted. No-one else in our squad offers what he does and he will be difficult to replace. Wish him all the best for the future, as I do DJ. I always thought he put in a shift when required.”

MB: “This tells me a busy window is ahead. If realistic offers come in for any contracted players regardless of loyalty, age, experience then we need to seriously consider if we have replacements lined up. Simply need improvement, both in the starting 11 and subs/reserves.”

Terence Price: “Would have given Bodvarsson and Jerome 12-month contracts. Bodvarsson has been unlucky with injuries but can play at this level. Jerome is a good rotation player and would make a good coach when he decides to retire from football.”

El Jay Cee: “Can’t argue with any of that. Big transfer window ahead, I think.”

Christopher Burke: “Get another few heads in and it can be a dangerous side. Onwards and upwards.”

Brandon: “Actually sad about Jerome, needs to stay on as a coach if he plans on retiring.”

Ian Halliday: “Nothing of any surprise really given how few were at the end. Noticed Matheson and Carty counted in the 'first team' section, would be good if either or both were able to push themselves into genuine consideration for next season.”

Aaron: “No surprises really. Still think it's going to be a busy summer with bids coming in for the likes of Sheehan, Charles etc.”

Col: “Distinct lack of senior experience in an already lacking squad. Big summer ahead once again.”

Ian Firth: “A little surprised by JDB but I assume that his injury record has counted against him. Dion, Vic & Dan are too similar in my opinion so I expect Bolton to bring someone else in who can add something different up front.”
