Gareth Pratt led home the Lostock AC contingent at the latest instalment of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix series - the Pennington Flash 5-Mile Trail race last Sunday.

Six members took part in the race organised by Leigh Harriers in perfect weather.

The race started on the club’s running track before heading to Pennington Flash where runners covered the many undulating paths before heading back to the club for a very speedy finish on the track.

Pratt crossed the line in a fantastic time of 38mins 42secs, followed by Tony Maxwell in 41:44, securing third in his age category, and Chris Baker, in 43:14.

Rachel Stevens was the first Lostock lady in 47:46, followed by Karen Taylor, in 51:33, and Gillian Caldwell, who was third in her age category in 53:56.

It was just part of a busy Bank Holiday weekend for club runners.

On Saturday, husband-and-wife duo, Jenna and Paul Edwards, took part in the Smithy’s Charity Trail Run. The race commences in Rainy’s Deakins Park, heading past Dunscar Golf Club, past Springs Reservoir before heading along Belmont Road. Participants then turn back towards the park.

Running the race together, the Edwards’ finished in 50:52. Their daughter Edie also completed the 1km children’s fun run, with race organisers donating all proceeds from the race to the MND Association.

Further away from home, Kerry Jackson and Mike Ernill took part in the Grand Raid des Pyrenees, Tour des Lacs, in France.

The race is usually 50 miles with an elevation gain of 17,000 feet, however due to pending storms the race organisers made the decision to reduce the route.

It was still an epic task with participants being required to cover 27 miles and an elevation gain of 8,400 feet. It was an extremely hot day when Jackson and Ernill started their challenge, and the first nine miles were a continuous climb.

They were rewarded with spectacular views of Reserve Naturelle du Neouviell and Reserve Naturelle regionale D’Auton, and completed the challenge in 8:35:00.
