Bolton MMA fighter Jack Cartwright bounced back with victory in Czechia at the weekend and is now vowing to exact revenge on bitter rival Jonas Magaard when they face off once again in the OKTAGON cage.
The 30-year-old, who suffered a decision loss to ‘The Shark’ in Newcastle when they fought in January, returned to the win column with a gruelling performance against Nate Sanikidze in Brno at OKTAGON 61 on Saturday night.
Despite losing the first round, the Harwood star rallied and went hunting for a finish, locking in several chokes but former featherweight champion Sanikidze survived to hear the final bell.
Cartwright allowed his emotions to flood from his body as the decision was read aloud.
And with Magaard stepping into the cage at the end of the fight and teasing a potential sequel between the pair, Cartwright accepted the challenge and promised a more emphatic performance.
He said: “I don’t know what he’s [Magaard] talking about when he says he is going to finish me.
“I’m going to be so much better when I fight him next time and I want my revenge.
“I don’t care if the belt is on the line for this one, it probably should be but I don’t really care about that.
“I know he was scheduled to fight for it, so it makes sense for the title to be on the line when we fight.
“It wasn’t my best performance, but I think the rear naked choke in the last round won it for me. That win means so much to me.
“I’ve had a hard few years, so this win means so much to me.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Sanikidze, thank you so much for the fight and thank you to this incredible crowd in Brno.”
