Wanderers Women want to make it a “great occasion” at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Sunday as they aim to secure the league title.

The Whites are playing at the stadium for the first time since moving under club operations as they wrap up the campaign against Preston North End.

Victory would see Myles Smith’s side guarantee top spot regardless of how Accrington Stanley fare in their games in hand.

Smith told The Bolton News: “It is 42 weeks of work from everybody and it comes down to the final 90 minutes which keeps it entertaining for everybody, doesn't it?

“The team have definitely put in one last week's worth of graft as much as they can and hope to try and finish the job off now.

“Until we have that trophy in our hands, we have not achieved what we set out at the start of the season. We have to make sure that we understand that and we remain focused.

“It is going to be a great occasion at the stadium with lots of fans, but that day will get clouded if we don't end up winning the trophy.

“We have to make sure that we are aware of that as a group. We have to make sure we do everything we can to try and lift that trophy.”

North End currently sit fourth in the table and still have a chance of breaking into the top three as they make the short trip to Bolton.

“Preston are not going to come here and want to lose the football match. They have got things to play for, they want to try and finish as high as they can in the league,” Smith added.

“We said at the start of the year to the team, every team who comes here wants to beat you and wants to stop us achieving this promotion, and Preston are no different.

“We don't expect them to come here and let us win it, and we have to be ready for that. We have played them twice this season and they set up differently on both occasions.

“We have been through, in training, the possibilities of what they may do. As always on the day, we have to quickly assess how they are trying to set up and adapt to that.

“But we focus on us and we have been doing that all season. We focus on what we do and we make tweaks to the opposition.

“Obviously, we respect the opposition but this team are ready to go and hopefully come out of the blocks.”

Top-scorer Jess Lightfoot is back from suspension, having missed the past few games following her red card against Morecambe.

Madison Hardman and Grace Grundy have impressed in Lightfoot’s absence and now Wanderers have a selection headache in the final third.

“We said when she was suspended, no doubt that the team are definitely better off when Jess is available but at the same time, we have 27 players who we are confident in and we trust,” said the manager.

“Maddie and Grace came in and did an unbelievable job when Jess was out. Maddie has done that twice this season now. She has been incredible for us and really worked as hard as she possibly can for this team.

“Getting a hat-trick against Penrith, but not only the goals that she scored, just the work rate and her attitude and mindset. Jess is back available now and we have got a tough decision to make.

“Jess doesn't just walk into the team. We have got a tough decision to make as a group of staff this week and see what the right thing is. But we will be approaching Sunday with whatever we think is the best 16 to try and win this game.”

Sunday's match kicks off at 2pm and supporters can pay on the day, with tickets priced at £3 for adults and FREE for under-18s.
