KION Etete’s forgettable loan spell with Wanderers looks to have come to an end after Steven Schumacher announced his list of absentees for the final game of the season against Stevenage.
The Cardiff City striker has managed just 73 minutes of football since arriving on loan in the final few days of the winter window.
Wanderers are set to bring George Johnston and Josh Dacres-Cogley back into the squad but will have only 12 senior players available against Stevenage.
Schumacher had previously conveyed that Etete reported a dead leg before the game at Peterborough United last weekend and was not expecting him to feature in his final squad.
A move for Etete had been lined-up by previous manager Ian Evatt in the summer, only for injury to strike. And though he signed a new contract with Cardiff, he had completed just 45 minutes for the Bluebirds in an FA Cup game against Sheffield United and a handful of Under-21s games before moving to Bolton.
He conceded a penalty moments after coming on as a substitute in his debut at Reading and picked up a thigh injury a few days later, recovering only to make four more appearances as a substitute.
“There are no further injuries,” Schumacher confirmed. “We are two players better off in the squad with George Johnston - congratulations to him and his partner, they've had their baby boy, Freddie, so good to have him back.
“And Josh Dacres-Cogley comes back because he's saved his suspension.
“We are two players stronger for the weekend, so that’s 12 senior players I have got to pick from, so that’s something!”
Absent on the final day will be Josh Sheehan, Eoin Toal, Will Forrester, Victor Adeboyejo, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Kyle Dempsey, Aaron Morley, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Ricardo Santos.
Schumacher has hinted that he could bring a few of the double-winning Under-19s into the squad for more experience and is likely to keep Sam Inwood in the group after an impressive league debut last weekend.
Wanderers are planning a lap of appreciation at the end of the game to say thanks to the supporters for their backing in what has been a frustrating season.
Stevenage, who hope to leapfrog Barnsley and Rotherham to finish 12th with a win, are an opponent Schumacher won’t be taking lightly.
“They are a threat,” he said. “They are difficult to deal with at times, really go from set pieces, and I think where they are in the division now shows you that they have become an established League One team.
“I think that's been evident over the last couple of seasons that they are not easy to play against, so it'll be a difficult game for us the weekend, no doubt.
“I watched Alex (Revell)’s interview after his last game and he’ll be wanting to finish on a positive because he didn't think he got the performance that he wanted against Rotherham last time out.”
