WANDERERS will face Scottish Premiership side Hibs in a pre-season friendly this summer.
Steven Schumacher’s side will go to Easter Road on Saturday, July 19, to play in a testimonial game for long-serving defender Darren McGregor.
Hibs finished third in the SPL last season to qualify for the Europa League and have within their ranks Australian defender Jack Iredale, who signed from Bolton in August last year.
Wanderers last played Hibs in the summer of 2009 at the Reebok Stadium for Jussi Jaaskelainen’s testimonial, a 0-0 draw which was preceded by an all-star match involving legends like Frank Worthington, Ivan Campo, Peter Reid and Gudni Bergsson.
The last time they played at Easter Road was two years earlier as Sammy Lee was hastily rebuilding a team that was soundly beaten 3-0 on the day with goals from Steven Fletcher, David Murphy and Abdessalem Benjelloun.
The Wanderers side that day was: Ian Walker, James Sinclair, Abdoulaye Faye, Lubomir Michalik, Scott Jamieson, El-Hadji Diouf (Robert Sissons), Danny Guthrie (Temitope Obadeyi), Gary Speed (Matthew Cassidy), Stelios Giannakopoulos (Nathan Wolfe), Heidar Helguson (Zoltan Harsanyi), Ricardo Vaz-Te. Subs Not Used: Przemyslaw Kazmierczak, Joey O'Brien.
Pre-season is now starting to take shape for the Whites with games already confirmed at Barrow on Tuesday, July 15 (7pm kick-off) and at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday, July 22 (7pm kick-off).
Further pre-season friendlies are expected to be confirmed by the club soon.
