WANDERERS have billed the appointment of Jimmy Dickinson as the club’s new head of recruitment as a “vital step” in this summer’s update of the football department.
Selected to lead Bolton’s scouting and recruitment efforts, Bury-born Dickinson comes off the back of a successful spell in a similar role with Plymouth Argyle.
Reporting to sporting director Fergal Harkin - who also had the final say on the appointment, Dickinson will now lead a team of analysts to research and identify possible signings for head coach Steven Schumacher.
Wanderers intend to mix a data-led approach to recruitment with more ‘live’ scouting than they had previously under the regime of Ian Evatt and Chris Markham, and Dickinson will be at the centre of that effort.

“His proven experience in leading an EFL recruitment department, combined with his analytical skills and valuable local connection, makes him an ideal fit for this crucial role within our strategic plan.

Dickinson will officially start his new role on Wednesday, June 11, and has previously worked in the North West before as head of performance analysis for Bury between 2014 and 2019.
He helped build a Plymouth side that was promoted out of League One in 2023 with 101 points on Schumacher’s watch and is now hoping to work the same magic in his new position at the Toughsheet Stadium.
