Rotherham United boss Matt Hamshaw plans to rotate his squad against Wanderers following a busy start to the campaign.

The Millers have taken four points from their opening six matches under Hamshaw, who took charge in April following a spell as interim boss.

“I will be making a lot of changes and making sure we fit the (selection) criteria, but we just can’t risk too many players,” he told the club channels.

“However, there are players who need some game time so it will probably be a younger team.”

Rotherham suffered a 1-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers over the weekend after Owen Bailey’s goal midway through the first half.

It was a tough one to take for Hamshaw, who felt his side were in control for large spells of the contest at the Eco-Power Stadium.

“Very frustrating,” he added. “I can break the game down tactically, I can do loads of things but I feel like all Rotherham fans, I am gutted we have lost the game 1-0.

“I can say we were the better team for a large percent of that game, I thought we had a bad 20 minutes before half time. It stings.

“It doesn’t matter how we start, how we finish, we have got to be better in certain areas and do better things.

“We have had two games against local rivals and people dress it up how they want, there are improvements, this and that. But it is two defeats and that is not what I am here for.”

It is now four league games without victory for the Yorkshire outfit since they overcame Port Vale on the opening day.

“I expect my team to win that game of football,” Hamshaw continued. “They have chances at the end, of course they do, because we are sending everyone forward and leaving ourselves light at the back.

“We started off really well and second half, they couldn’t get out of their half. But we lost 1-0 and I feel for the fans.

“I wanted to really give them something to cheer about. It is alright saying there are signs of improvement but I was the same after Barnsley, I will come in Monday and probably what the little bits of positives are.

“I don’t think you can really question that [heart and desire]. You can question the lack of quality in certain areas but I think the lads gave it everything.”
