Myles Smith reckons the finer details are starting to come together for Wanderers Women after a big win against Chester in the FA Cup.

Abbie Brown bagged a brace, with Madison Hardman, Eleanor Seals and Evie Sadler also getting on the scoresheet.

Bolton are now 90 minutes away from the first round proper, but first they must overcome a tough test at Rutherford Ladies.

“I thought it was a really good performance,” Smith told the club. “The way they set up was similar to how Crewe set up last week in terms of players behind the ball.

“Last week we struggled to break through and find that second ball, but we had been working on that through the week and the players put that into the performance. Every individual performance from all the players who were here was superb.

“When you see some of the goals we scored, it is starting to look a lot more like us. Credit has to go to the opposition because although the scoreline… they didn’t make it easy for us.

“We were touch and go whether we could get the game on or not, and credit to the team for sticking in the right mindset because it was last-minute. When you score a lot of those goals, it is really pleasing from our side.”

Sadler’s goal was her first for the club after joining from Burnley over the summer, and Smith has been impressed with the forward’s performances.

“She just needs to do that and be herself,” he insisted. “She is a top quality player that we brought here and I said to her a week ago, she is putting a lot of pressure on herself.

“Naturally, players do that and goalscorers, like she is, do that. I told her just to relieve that pressure, there is no pressure from our side and as soon as she scores that first goal, she will get many more.

“But her performances every time she has played for us have been superb. The movement she is making, everything is right, the decisions on the ball are good.

“It is brilliant that she has got the first goal and I am sure she will get many more in a white shirt.”

Ahead of the tie, Wanderers announced the signing of ex-Blackburn and Stoke defender Kayleigh McDonald.

McDonald has plenty of experience higher up the pyramid, including in the Championship, but has had a tough time with injury over the past 18 months.

“She is an incredible person who has been on a real incredible journey,” said Smith. “She has played at a really high level and has bags of experience.

“The last 18 months or so, she has been through a real tough time with injuries but it shows how resilient she is.

“She has been working hard with us and done some amazing work. She deserves to be where she is at now and hopefully it is not long before we see her in a white shirt.”

Wanderers are back in cup action this weekend as they make the short trip to Preston North End in the Alliance Design & Print Cup.
