MYLES Smith hopes that Wanderers Women’s strong cup form can translate into points when the team returns to league action.
After putting five goals past Chester in the FA Cup, the Whites hit six at Preston North End on Sunday to reach the next round of the Alliance Design and Print Cup.
Two goals apiece for Evie Sadler and Faye Knox, plus one piece for Eleanor Seals and Imogen Longcake kept up a good run for the team, who travel to Gateshead this weekend to face Rutherford Ladies hoping to book their place in the FA Cup first round proper.
Pleased with the performance, which included five goals in the first half alone, Smith believes his side are now starting to make real progress after a big squad overhaul in the summer.
“Momentum is a key thing on football, a massive thing, and we stress to this team about good habits and having a strong mindset,” he said.
“We want the good habits from this game to first of all be taken into next weekend and the FA Cup but then eventually into the league as well.
“We have got fixtures coming up thick and fast, tough ones at that, so hopefully the momentum we have been building can continue.
“The ball is rolling now. We have had a few games now where we have managed to get results and stay unbeaten. We have put a few wins together and the goals are being spread across the park now, as opposed to coming from one or two people.
“The way we are playing, everything is starting to look better, it’s starting to roll.
“We said right from the start that this is going to take time, the transition we had, the amount of players changed, the new staff, but week by week the results are coming now and the performances are too.”
The Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust are organising coach travel to the North East this Sunday, leaving the Toughsheet Stadium at 9am. Seats are priced at £25 for adults and £15 for juniors.
