Bolton Wanderers boss on loan recall clause for loan stars

The Bolton boss used the loan market extensively in the summer to secure five new signings - Amario Cozier-Duberry, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Ibrahim Cissoko, Marcus Forss and Mason Burstow.

The specific success of Cozier-Duberry – who forced his way into the England Under-21 long squad - and Burstow – who leads League One’s scoring charts - has prompted speculation over whether they could be recalled by their parent clubs, Brighton and Hull City, in January.

Sheffield United have also checked on Cozier-Duberry over the last few weeks with a view to a bid in the winter transfer window.

For Schumacher, however, the fact his players are being discussed in such positive terms is evidence that their move to Bolton has been a success and he refuses to look towards the future with concern.

“In the loan contract of all these players there’s always a call-back clause in January,” he said. “That’s kind of what happens.

“If it's going well for them and they have other plans, or it's not going well and we need to send them back, then there's always a break clause.

“But it's not a concern that they're doing well. That's the point of us having loan players because we think they're good players and they come in and help your team. So, I'm delighted with all of the loan players that we've had.

“Probably the one that hasn't made the impact as much as we would have wanted to yet because his opportunity hasn't been there is Ibrahim Cissoko. He has found himself behind Thierry Gale at this point in time, but the others are all performing really well.”

 Schumacher has reiterated to players like Cissoko that they will get their chance to shine in a competitive first team squad that was bolstered by the return of Will Forrester, Kyle Dempsey and Jordi Osei-Tutu in the last couple of weeks.

“I have had this experience before when we were at Plymouth Argyle and had a season where the injuries weren’t too bad,” he said.

“In those times you have to explain to players that there are certain games for them, there are certain games for others, and you have to just be ready when you get the opportunity, come onto the pitch and make an impact.

“It is nothing that's new to me, but I am happy to have conversations with players as you would expect, and I can't say it often enough to them, you've just got to trust us and stick with it, keep your head down, be a good person, first and foremost be a good team-mate, and when you get your chance, take it.”
