STEVEN Schumacher has urged Wanderers to change their away-day narrative at Huddersfield Town tonight.
The Bolton boss has been left reflecting on a similar story for most games away from the Toughsheet Stadium this season, with his side conceding first on every occasion.
The Whites have also rued some wayward finishing on their travels which has cost them priceless points, and Schumacher is desperate to alter the destructive pattern in front of the TV cameras at the Accu Stadium.
“I think we've just got to learn from our mistakes,” he said. “I think too often now, I've come out and said at the end of the games about us not being clinical enough and then one error costs us, so we need to learn from that.
“It's six games now away from home where we haven't managed to win, which as good as we've played, isn't good enough. We need to learn from that, and we must do better in both boxes. I think that'll be the main thing that we want to see.
“It's a completely different test on Thursday night and we're confident that if we can get our gameplan right, we go about it right and play to our best, then we can be a real good game for Huddersfield.”
Fans showed their displeasure during the heavy defeat at Burton at the weekend and another sell-out allocation of 2,300 supporters will be backing the Whites in West Yorkshire.
Schumacher believes his players are ready to respond in a positive fashion against League One’s biggest summer spenders.
“It's another opportunity for us to try and win the game,” he said. “We had a poor result on Saturday, but we had a good result the weekend before (against Peterborough).
“Once you've had a poor result, you want to try and bounce back as quickly as possible. The importance of the game is because of who it's against. It's against a team who are just above us, it's a team who we expect to be up at the top end of the division because of the players that they have got and how they have recruited over this summer.
“It's a real important night and we want to make sure that we go there and put in a performance that suits us, looks like us, and try and get a result that we feel as though our performance deserves, which we haven't done away from home.
“There's no hiding behind the fact we need to win more and this night gives us an opportunity to try and do that.”
Schumacher does not expect any hangover from the Burton game but has hinted at making changes to the side, especially with Josh Sheehan and Eoin Toal back off international duty.
He said: “The Burton game has gone, it's done. We spoke about it earlier in the week, it's done. We understand what went wrong on that day and we're focusing on this one.
“What I see in the players is a desire to try and go and win this game. They know how important it is, they know Huddersfield’s strengths and we've done our best to give them the information of what to expect.
“We want to see a team full of energy that goes and decides to attack the game and be as positive as we can to try and get the outcome that we want.
“You have to try and find a way to win and like I’ve said every week I don’t base team selection just on the outcome of the last game.
“We always have to try and get the balance right of what we think is the best starting team to try and beat the next opponent.”
