Wanderers Women are in the FA Cup first round proper for the first time under club operations - and now they are hungry to keep the run going against Ponteland United.

Bolton overcame Chester and Rutherford in the previous qualifying rounds and now face a tough test against a side unbeaten in their respective league.

Interim head coach Tom Cunniff says the squad is raring to go and looking to put on a show for the fans on Sunday.

“Everyone is excited for the FA Cup,” he told the club. “A team we haven’t played before so we have done as much research as we can.

“It will be a tough game. Everybody wants to play every game for this club so it is exciting and hopefully we can get into the next round.

“We have done as much research as we can. They are in the North East version of our league and they are a good team, they are unbeaten this season. But it’s the FA Cup so everybody is excited to get going and hopefully get us into the next round.

“We want to go and put on a show for the fans, and we want to get the win on the day. But we don’t take anyone for granted and we know they will be feeling the same. We have to prepare the best we can for them.

“I think it will be quite open at times. We will try to dominate the ball like we always do and create as many chances as we can.

“We are expecting some challenges from them in different areas, but we have prepared the team the best we can this week.”

Cunniff is grateful for the support the team has received and believes it can give them a boost this weekend.

“We really appreciate all the support that we always get from the fans and the club. The team are fully aware when they are behind us and it is a big help,” he added.

“In the last few weeks, we have seen that more than ever. Everyone getting together and supporting the team.

“I think you have seen that in the performances and the results, and hopefully we get that this weekend.”
