STEVEN Schumacher expects the story of Wanderers’ January transfer window to take some unexpected twists and turns.

The Bolton boss has already stated that he wants to keep his squad together next month and is in no rush to make new additions at this present moment in time.

But he is also realistic enough to know that some of the players who are not getting regular starts are also checking out their options, so alongside head of recruitment Jimmy Dickinson and sporting director Fergal Harkin, the current plan at the Toughsheet is to be ‘prepared for anything.’

It is understood that Aaron Morley could be on his way in January with Luton Town and Wycombe both set to reignite their interest in the midfielder.

Will Forrester and John McAtee are also in the same boat, having failed to get regular game time and Victor Adeboyejo also has question marks over his future having now returned from his long-term knee injury.

Schumacher believes the number of games between now and the end of January guarantees that some situations will change before the opportunity to do business closes.

“We will see how it goes, there is so much that can happen between now and the middle of January, we know that things can change quickly,” he told The Bolton News.

“Someone who might be really disgruntled now might find themselves playing again, so it’s just one of them, you have to develop and see what happens, react from there.

“Me, Fergal and Jimmy are speaking all the time about eventualities and what could potentially happen. We just have to stay calm in it.

“But most importantly, we have to try and keep performing and getting results in the meantime, because that's all we can really focus on. That's all we can really have an impact on right now.”

Wanderers have a well-stocked first team squad and named 22 eligible senior players in the squad submitted to the EFL after the previous window.

That means there is no room available to sign and register an outfield player who is aged 21 or above without first moving on one of the players on the senior squad list.

Schumacher is also aware that with a relatively clear medical room, he is having to leave players out of his squad entirely.

“You have to weigh it all up bringing anyone in,” he said. “If you think they will help your squad, what does it do to the dynamic of group?

“At the moment, when everyone is fit, there are people getting left out of training sessions, so you have to just get that balance right.

“We are in no major rush to go, we need this, we need that. Probably all three of us have got players in our mind. If we could go and buy somebody, that's who we'd get, that's what we'd do.

“Whether we're able to do that from a financial point of view and from a squad point of view, that might not be the exact case. We will just see what happens and be ready.

“You have just got to be prepared and have your plan in place in case whatever the outcome looks like.”
