ETHAN Erhahon should be back in the frame for Wanderers in their New Year’s Day visit to Doncaster Rovers.
The midfielder sat out against Mansfield Town on Monday night as a precautionary measure after leaving the pitch late in the previous game on Boxing Day against Rotherham United.
Steven Schumacher confirmed that the issue would not prevent him being a part of the squad at the EcoPower Stadium as they look to bounce back with three points.
“Ethan isn’t injured but he didn’t make it today because he was still a bit cramped up,” the Bolton boss explained. “We felt like it was the sort of game where we would have all of the ball again – and it turned out that way – so we decided to rest him, but he will be available for Doncaster.”
Wanderers are keeping an eye on Thierry Gale, who also had to come off against Mansfield with what the club hope is just a fatigue issue.
“I don’t think it’s anything bad, maybe just a bit of tiredness, a bit of cramp,” Schumacher said. “Hopefully there is nothing too bad because he has been really good the last couple of weeks, but the physios will check him out and we’ll see how it goes.”
Joel Randall had kept his place in the side, and having discussed a negative reaction to his substitution in the previous game, Schumacher was pleased to see the mood had changed.
“I heard the fans singing his name, which was brilliant for him and it’ll give him confidence,” he added. “Again, I think he’s a clever player, he gets in those little pockets, he's probably technically the best 10 that we've got in tight areas.
“And as we said the last game, he's got to just add little numbers to his game. But if he keeps doing well, then that's good for us.
“I think he did well. I thought he deserved to continue in the team, to be honest, and he did all right, I thought (Kyle) Dempsey did OK again when he came on.
“When there's a bit more space, Dempsey's powerful, he should have scored maybe from the cross that Amario (Cozier-Duberry) put in. But there were a few of those.”
